Project: Hotwheels Broadcast Spot

Client: Dave & Buster’s

Budget: $15,000

Timeline: 14 Days

Scope: Edit, motion graphics, 3D build and animation, composite

The Ask

For the introduction of their new Hotwheels arcade game, Dave and Buster’s tasked us with incorporating a giant Hotwheels car and race track into a live-action store interior for another of their national broadcast spots.

“We need the track INSIDE the store. Make it cool and make it fast!”
The Challenge

While we had the car model, the race track was nonexistent, and we had to create one that would fit seamlessly into the scene. There was a lot of compositing that needed to be done in a short amount of time, so with a handful of assets and a shot with only the game and no background, we got to work.

The Solution

We used Maya to model and design a track that would match the perspective and lighting of the footage. Once the 3D track was created, we textured and animated the car and placed them into the live-action shot using After Effects, ensuring the Hotwheels car interacted naturally with the environment. Once everything was in place we applied the edit.
